ACCOUNT & REGISTRATION

Why do I need a unique email address for the Study Center Account and App?

A unique email address helps us securely identify and manage your personal data. This ensures all communication and study participation information is tailored specifically to you.

How do I register as a study participant?

To become a registered study participant, you must first register as a participant via the Study Center Website. After that, one of our dermatologists will schedule an appointment with you. During this initial evaluation, which takes place in a dermatology practice, we will assess your skin type, condition, and overall health profile to determine your eligibility for future studies. Once registered, you will gain access to the app and its features.

What determines whether I am suitable for a study?

Your suitability depends on several factors, such as:

  • Skin type and condition
  • Overall health
  • Age and gender (e.g., specific products may target men or women)
  • Availability and willingness to commit to study guidelines

After evaluating these factors, we will let you know if you qualify for the study.

How do I sign up for a study?

Once you are a registered participant, you can use the app to browse available studies. Only studies for which you meet the specific eligibility criteria (such as skin type, age, or health requirements) will be visible to you. If you are interested in a study, you can express your interest directly through the app or by contacting the Call Center. If you go through the Call Center, the study coordinators will review your information and handle the registration process on your behalf.

What should I do if I have questions about deleting my account?

If you are considering deleting your account or personal data, please use the Study App (go to further information and choose “delete account”) or contact our service team at +49 40 4909 5600 (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.).

STUDY PARTICIPATION

How do I get an initial appointment with the dermatologist?

After registering your interest, our service team will contact you to schedule an appointment at the dermatologist’s office.

What is the timeline for receiving my financial compensation?

The study timeline is detailed in your invitation letter or information sheet. Typically, the financial compensation will be paid within 4 weeks after the study concludes.
The app displays the amount you will receive for participating in the study. We are exploring the possibility of adding a payout overview in a future version of the app to make tracking easier.

What happens if I cannot complete the study?

If you are unable to complete the study for any reason, inform us immediately via the app or by contacting our service team. Your situation will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

How can I view my study documents?

All documents related to your study can be found in the Files section within the specific study under My Studies.

APPOINTMENTS & STUDY SCHEDULES

Can I reschedule my appointments?

Unfortunately, rescheduling appointments is not possible due to the structured nature of our study plans. If you are unable to attend a scheduled appointment, you may need to cancel your participation in the study. Contact the study investigator to discuss your options.

What happens if I cancel an appointment?

If you cancel an appointment for a study, your participation in the entire study will be cancelled. This is because study schedules are strictly structured, and each appointment plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate results.
Once cancelled, the study will no longer appear in your list of available studies, even if there are open slots. If you wish to participate in the study again, you will need to contact the study investigator to discuss potential re-enrolment, though rejoining is not guaranteed.

How do I cancel my participation in a study?

If you decide to cancel your participation, follow these steps:

1. Open the app and navigate to your active studies.
2. Select the option to cancel participation (if available).

What happens if I withdraw from a study?

If you withdraw from a study, any data collected up until that point will remain part of the study. Withdrawal does not impact future eligibility.

PARTICIPATION POLICIES

Can I participate in multiple studies at the same time?

Typically, participants are eligible for one study at a time. This ensures accurate results and avoids conflicts between study conditions, e.g. preconditioning. However, in some cases, it is possible to participate in multiple studies at a time, when different skin areas are used (e.g. back, forearm). If you are interested in multiple studies, please discuss this with the study investigator.

What if I need to take a break during the study?

Taking breaks is usually not possible, as studies require strict adherence to schedules. Contact your study investigator immediately if you foresee any conflicts or issues.

APP & TECHNICAL SUPPORT

Why is an app being provided?

  • Multi-platform use: The new app can be used on both smartphones and web browsers, giving you more flexibility.
  • User-friendly design: The new design is more intuitive and therefore more user-friendly, making it easier for you to navigate and use the app.
  • Integration into the Beiersdorf Study Center: The new Study App is fully integrated into the existing Study Center processes. You will be able to log in with the same user data to ...

    • receive and select study offers,
    • manage your studies.
  • Email notifications: Receive reminders about your appointments.

How do I install the app?

To use the new Study App, you need a web browser on your PC/notebook or a smartphone. Most modern smartphones and web browsers are compatible.
The app is not provided via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store but is part of the Beiersdorf Study Center website. You can use the app via a browser or install it on your device. We recommend installing the app because it gives you seamless integration and a better user experience.

For Android Devices

1. Open the Study App link

  • Open the provided link to the Study App in your Chrome browser (or another supported browser). http://study-center.beiersdorf.de/app 

2. Add to Home Screen

  • You may see a prompt asking if you'd like to "Add to Home Screen." If this appears, click on it.
  • If no prompt appears: Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of your browser and select "Add to Home Screen."

3. Confirm installation

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm adding the app to your Home Screen. The Study App will now appear on your Home Screen like a regular app.

4. Open the app

  • Tap the Study App icon on your Home Screen to open the app and start managing your studies!

For iOS Devices

1. Open the Study App link

  • Open the provided link to the Study App in the Safari browser (required for iOS devices). http://study-center.beiersdorf.de/app  

2. Log in to your account

  • Log in to the website using your Study Center credentials.

3. Add to Home Screen

  • Tap the Share icon (a square with an arrow pointing upwards) at the bottom of the screen.
  • Scroll down the menu and select "Add to Home Screen."

4. Name and add the app

  • Enter a name for the app (e.g., "Study App") and tap "Add." The app will now appear on your Home Screen like any other app.

5. Open the app

  • Tap the Study App icon on your Home Screen to access it and manage your studies directly!

For Desktop Browsers

1. Open the Study App link

2. Add a bookmark

  • Bookmark the page for quick access in the future. Some browsers may also display an option to "Install App" directly—follow the prompts if available.

What are the technical requirements for using the app?

The installation of the app does not work on outdated operating systems (e.g. Android version 5.0 or older, iOS 11.3 or older). In such cases, the app can be used via the browser on the smartphone.

    • Google Chrome: Version 70 or higher on desktop and mobile
    • Microsoft Edge: Version 79 or higher
    • Mozilla Firefox: Version 67 or higher, though PWA installation support is limited
    • Safari: Only on iOS (Version 11.3 or higher), no PWA installation support on desktop
    • Opera: Version 54 or higher
    • Samsung Internet: Version 8.0 or higher
  • Operating System Requirements
    • Windows: Version 10 (1803 or later) for PWA installations via Microsoft Edge or Chrome
    • MacOS: Version 10.15 (Catalina) or later for PWA installations via Chrome
    • Android: Version 5.0 (Lollipop) or later; PWA installation via Chrome and Samsung Internet
    • iOS: iOS 11.3 or later; PWAs can be saved to the Home Screen, but with limited functionality 

A PWA (Progressive Web App) is an application that runs in a web browser but functions like a regular app and can be installed without needing to be downloaded from an app store.

How do I receive information about the studies?

Communication is exclusively via email in order to also reach users who use the app via a browser and have deactivated push notifications there. A reminder email will be sent to study participants three days before the start of an appointment. In future, app users will also be informed by email when they have been invited to a study. This function is currently still under development.

What should I do if the app is not working?

Try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Ensure your internet connection is stable.
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies.
  • Ensure your app is updated (if prompted, reinstall the app).
  • Restart your device.

Can I still participate without using the app?

While we encourage using the app for a seamless experience, some studies are still available through our Call Center.

How do I update the app?

You do not need to take any action to update the app. Updates are installed automatically in the background and consist of small packages requiring minimal data storage. We continuously enhance the app, introducing improvements and new features for your convenience. Additionally, study documents will be regularly updated to ensure they are even easier to read and access within the app.

What do I have to do if I still have the old app?

From 9th January 2025, studies will only be provided via the new app.  You can uninstall the old app from your device. We cannot remove the old app centrally. If you want to use the new app, please note that the login details (username and password) of the old and the new app are independent of each other. For the new app, you will need the access data as described in the ACCOUNT & REGISTRATION section.
